NOTE: Want your characters to be STYLIZED (“TOON”)? Unfortunately the iClone2Unreal workflow focuses on realistic humans / creatures / animals, but please check out our guide to Toon characters here.

Your options for human characters

There are four options for photorealistic human characters in this iClone2Unreal workflow, and you can click through to full “how to” articles on how to make them:

STEP 2A
HUMAN with METAHUMAN
The first option is the highest quality but least customizable, and that’s to use MetaHuman Creator for the head and body.
STEP 2B
HUMAN with CHARACTER CREATOR
The second option is to use Character Creator for the head and body. This process uses no MetaHumans at all, even inside Unreal Engine – it’s all CC characters.
STEP 2C
HUMAN with ZBRUSH + CHARACTER CREATOR
The third option is to use ZBrush to custom model (or refine) a headmesh you want, then use “HeadShot 2.0” to add a “CC4 EXTENDED FACIAL PROFILE” to it, then apply it to a CC3+ body. This process uses no MetaHumans at all, even inside Unreal Engine – it’s all CC characters.
STEP 2D
HUMAN with CC TO METAHUMAN
The fourth option is to create your own MetaHuman with Character Creator and the “mesh to metahuman” process.

Your options for a Creature, Robot or Animal

There is only one option really for photorealistic creature, robot or animal (including insects) characters in this iClone2Unreal workflow:

STEP 2E
NON-HUMAN with CHARACTER CREATOR
The only option is a custom character with a custom rig. Purchase, find or create a model of a creature and rig it. Import it into iClone via Character Creator 4. Transfer to Unreal. Final result will be as photorealistic as the purchased textures are. This process uses no MetaHumans at all, even inside Unreal Engine – it’s all CC characters.
