How to fix the red circle in LiveSync for Unreal (Marvelous Designer)
HOW TOs > MARVELOUS DESIGNER

If you’re trying to use LIVESYNC with Marvelous Designer, you might have the dreaded “red circle”, showing you can’t connect.

Please be aware that as of June 2025 there is now a new undocumented SETTING that is off by default inside Marvelous Designer that you must manually turn on!!

  • You need to go to SETTINGS > PREFERENCES:
  • then click OTHER, and enable “Enable Livesync“. Otherwise it won’t work.

Obviously, this is IN ADDITION to the steps you need to take, that are documented on the official help page here. That includes:

  • You have to install the LIVESYNC plugin from Fab for your Unreal Engine version (ie. 5.6.0 is the latest as I write this)
    https://www.fab.com/listings/e1ecc882-d6c4-4928-b880-5f66d1590bba
  • You have to install SUBSTANCE 3D plugin from Fab for your Unreal Engine version (ie. 5.6.0 is the latest as I write this)
    https://www.fab.com/listings/292bb370-f146-4d1e-89c2-afbdb26cea6b
  • Inside Unreal, you have to go into EDIT > PLUGINS and enable both of those plugins
  • You have to go to EDIT > PROJECT SETTINGS
    • Search for ‘directx’ and set the version to 11
    • Search for ‘translucency’ and enable the checkbox for “Enable Order Independent Transparency (Experimental)”
